A 90-Day Hair Plan (Mostly Not About Hair Products)

Week one is a blood test, not a shopping list. Hair grows 1cm a month and the commonest correctable cause in Indian women is low ferritin - so the plan starts where the cause usually is.

Week one is a blood test, not a shopping list. Hair grows about 1 cm a month and nothing changes that, so a 90-day plan buys you roughly 3 cm of new growth. What decides whether that growth is healthy is almost always internal — and the commonest correctable cause in Indian women is low ferritin.

We sell hair powders. They appear in week two of this plan, not week one.

Week 1 — Find the Cause

Get tested for:

  • Ferritin — iron stores. It can be low while haemoglobin reads normal, so "your haemoglobin is fine" does not rule it out.
  • TSH — thyroid, both under and over
  • Vitamin D and B12
  • PCOS assessment, if your periods are irregular

Also, one free diagnostic: pick up a fallen hair. A white bulb means it came out at the root — internal cause. No bulb, ragged end — it snapped, which is breakage and a different problem entirely.

And check for the three-month rule: a fever, surgery, childbirth, crash diet or major stress around three months ago causes telogen effluvium — sudden heavy shedding that reverses on its own within six months. If that fits, you mostly need patience, not products.

Weeks 2–12 — The Routine

Weekly, external

One hair pack a week. Not more — more dries the hair.

Hibiscus is not optional. Amla and bhringraj are astringent and leave hair rough alone; hibiscus is the natural conditioner that fixes it.

Twice weekly, oil

Fingertips, not nails. 5–10 minutes. One hour, then wash out — not overnight if you have any dandruff, because eight hours of oil feeds the yeast that causes it.

Washing

Twice a week. If switching to herbal hair wash, expect a rough transition — week two is the worst and most people quit exactly then. Do one clarifying shampoo wash first to strip silicone build-up.

Internal, daily

  • If ferritin was low: hemoglobin powder + amla, same glass, away from tea and milk
  • Protein at every meal. Hair is keratin. Low-protein diets show up in hair.
  • If prescribed anything for thyroid or deficiency — that is the main treatment, not the packs

Stop doing (free, and effective)

Tight ponytails and buns · combing wet hair · heat styling · open hair at night · a brush instead of a wide-tooth comb

What to Expect, Honestly

Week What happens
1–2 Nothing visible. Possibly more shedding from massage — dislodged hairs, settles.
3–6 Less breakage, softer, less tangling. Scalp calmer.
6–12 Shedding reduces — the first genuine sign
Month 3 Short new growth at the hairline. ~3 cm of new hair exists.
Month 6 Visible density change — when other people notice

90 days is enough to know whether it is working. It is not enough to see the full result.

Day 90 — Reassess

Retest ferritin. Shedding reduced? Continue. Nothing changed at all? The cause was not found — go back to the doctor rather than to a different powder.

This Plan Will Not Help

  • Male or female pattern hair loss — widening parting, receding hairline. Medical treatment works, and works far better early. Two years on herbal packs is time you do not get back.
  • Round bald patches — alopecia areata, autoimmune, needs a dermatologist.
  • Scarring, scaling or painful scalp — see a doctor.
  • Grey hair. Nothing reverses it. For coverage, henna and indigo.
