Buy tulsi if you want something gentle you can take every day, indefinitely. Buy giloy if you want something stronger, taken in courses of four to six weeks. Buy rasayan churna if you are run-down and constipated at the same time. One caveat decides everything though, so it comes first.
If You Have an Autoimmune Condition, None of These
Rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, Hashimoto's, Crohn's.
In these conditions your immune system is already attacking your own tissue. Herbs traditionally used to stimulate immune activity work against your treatment, not with it. That applies to giloy, ashwagandha, alfalfa and spirulina.
This is a category exclusion, not a dosage question. Same if you take immunosuppressant medication.
The Decision
| You want… | Buy | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Daily, gentle, lifelong | Tulsi | Continuous is traditional |
| Stronger, seasonal courses | Neem Giloy | 4–6 weeks, then a break |
| Run-down and constipated | Rasayan Churna | 4–6 weeks |
| Nutritional support, not stimulation | Moringa | Continuous |
| Winter, throat and chest | Ajwain honey + tulsi | As needed |
If You Buy Only One
Tulsi. It is the one herb here that Indians have eaten daily for centuries, it is the gentlest, it has the fewest contraindications, and it is the cheapest. Half a teaspoon in hot — not boiling — water, covered, steeped five minutes.
Not boiling matters. Tulsi's actives are volatile oils; hard boiling drives them off and you can smell it happening. Hot water, covered, keeps them in the cup.
An Honest Word on "Immunity Boosting"
"Immunity booster" is a marketing phrase, not a medical one. A healthy immune system does not need boosting; an over-boosted one is called an autoimmune disease.
What these herbs are traditionally used for is support during and after illness, and general resilience. That is a smaller, truer claim — and it is the one we will make.
None of them prevents or treats any infection. A fever that is high or persistent needs a doctor; dengue, malaria, typhoid and COVID all present that way.
How Much to Buy
Tulsi at ½–1 tsp daily is about 90 g a month. Because you take it continuously, 500 g is the sensible size — but not 1 kg. Tulsi is a volatile-oil herb and loses aroma in about six months; a kilo would last eleven months and the last third would be weak.
Giloy is taken in courses, so 200–500 g covers a season.

The Giloy Liver Question
Between 2020 and 2021 Indian hepatologists published case reports of liver injury in people taking giloy. Worth knowing rather than discovering later.
A recurring concern was plant misidentification — Tinospora crispa, a related and genuinely hepatotoxic species, sold as Tinospora cordifolia. Several reported cases involved very high doses, prolonged use, or pre-existing liver disease.
Practically: buy correctly identified giloy from a traceable source, stay at normal doses, take breaks rather than using it for many months continuously, and do not take it at all if you have a liver condition without your doctor's approval. Stop immediately if you develop yellowing of the eyes, dark urine or persistent nausea.

Tulsi or giloy?

Can I take these daily forever?
Tulsi and moringa, yes. Giloy and rasayan churna, in courses with breaks.
Will these stop me catching colds?
No. They are traditionally used for support and recovery, not prevention.
Can children take them?
Tulsi with honey is standard for children's coughs in India, at a smaller dose. Never honey under one year old. Giloy only on a practitioner's advice.
Safe in pregnancy?
