Nirgundi Leaf Powder

Nirgundi Leaf Powder is pure Vitex negundo — the herb Ayurveda names Sarvaroganivarini, "the one that cures all diseases". That is a classical honorific rather than a claim, but it tells you how highly nirgundi is regarded. Its main traditional use is muscular and joint comfort, applied externally as well as taken internally.

How to Use

Internally: ½ teaspoon in warm water, once daily.

As a poultice (the classic use): mix the powder with warm water into a thick paste, apply over the affected joint or muscle, cover with a cloth, and leave 30–45 minutes. This external application is what nirgundi is best known for in Ayurveda.

As nirgundi oil: simmer 2 tablespoons in 100 ml sesame oil on very low heat for 10 minutes, cool, strain. Massage into stiff joints and muscles.

Allow 4–6 weeks for internal use.

Nirgundi or parijat for joints?

Parijat is taken internally and is the classic for joint stiffness. Nirgundi works well applied externally over a specific painful area. They are often used together — our Joint Support blend contains both.

How long before results?

The poultice gives a warming, soothing effect fairly quickly. Internal use takes 4–6 weeks.

Who should avoid it?
