Organic Sugandhi Ubtan Powder

Organic Sugandhi Ubtan Powder (सुगंधी उटणे) is the fragrant herbal body scrub used in the Diwali Abhyanga Snan ritual — and, increasingly, as a year-round natural alternative to soap. Sandalwood, rose petals, orange peel, kasturi haldi, neem and besan, blended the traditional way.

The Ritual

On Narak Chaturdashi, families wake before sunrise, apply ubtan, and take the ritual bath. In many homes the smell of sugandhi utane is Diwali morning. But the ritual exists for a practical reason too: it exfoliates, cleanses and leaves skin genuinely soft.

What Is In It

• Sandalwood — cooling and the source of the fragrance
• Rose petal powder — softens and soothes
• Multani mitti — deep cleanses and lifts impurities
• Kasturi haldi — brightening, non-staining
• Orange peel — refreshing, supports tone
• Neem — traditionally used for clear skin

How to Use

Mix with rose water, milk or plain water depending on your skin — milk for dry, rose water for oily. Apply to damp skin, leave a few minutes, then massage off in gentle circular motions and rinse with warm water.

Traditional Abhyanga method: oil the body first with sesame or coconut oil, then apply ubtan over the oil and massage off. This is what makes the skin feel different afterwards — the oil nourishes, the ubtan lifts.

Use once or twice a week year-round, or as part of the Diwali ritual.
