Best Ayurvedic Powder for Glowing Skin: A Buying Guide

Which one to actually buy depends on whether your skin is oily or dry - and buying the wrong one is why clay masks leave some people tight and irritated. A short decision guide.

Oily or acne-prone skin: buy multani mitti. Dry, normal or sensitive skin: buy ubtan. Want one product that does both jobs: buy the ready face pack. That is the whole decision, and getting it wrong is why some people find clay masks leave their skin tight and irritated — they bought the strong oil absorber for skin that had no oil to spare.

Choose By Skin Type

Your skin Buy How often
Oily, acne-prone Multani Mitti 2× week with rose water
Dry or normal Sugandhi Ubtan 1–2× week with milk or honey
Dull, uneven tone Kasturi Haldi ½ tsp in any pack, 2× week
Active breakouts Neem + multani mitti 2× week, 15 min max
Sensitive, easily irritated Rose petal powder 2× week, gentlest option
Want one product Organic Face Pack 2× week
Sun-exposed, tanned Multani mitti + lemon peel 1× week, sunscreen after

If You Buy Only One

Oily skin → multani mitti. Cheapest of the group at ₹35 per 100 g in the 1 kg pack, and it is the single most effective thing for excess oil.

Dry or normal skin → ubtan. It cleanses and mildly exfoliates without stripping, which multani mitti cannot do on dry skin.

Not sure → the ready face pack. It is already balanced — multani mitti, kasturi haldi, neem and rose — so you are not buying four things and guessing proportions.

Use Kasturi Haldi, Not Kitchen Turmeric

Worth stating because it is the commonest mistake in Indian home skincare. Kasturi haldi is a different species (Curcuma aromatica) and does not stain skin yellow. Cooking turmeric does, for two or three days.

Kasturi haldi is also not edible — external use only. See Kasturi Haldi vs Regular Turmeric.

How Much to Buy

A face pack uses 2–3 tablespoons — roughly 20–30 g. Twice a week is about 200 g a month.

Skin turns over in about 28 days, so give any routine 6–8 weeks before judging it. That is 400–500 g. A 100 g pack gives you four or five packs, which is not a trial.

Buy 500 g. Multani mitti in particular is worth buying large — it is a mineral clay and keeps for years, unlike leaf powders which lose potency in months.

The Mistake That Undoes All of It

Almost everyone leaves a pack on until it is bone dry and cracking. That is wrong.

While damp, the clay absorbs excess surface oil — the useful part. Once fully dry it keeps pulling, and now it is pulling water out of living skin. The skin then overproduces oil to recover.

Rinse while the pack is still slightly tacky. 10–15 minutes, not until it cracks.

Also: never mix with lemon juice. Common advice, genuinely bad — far too acidic, and it causes photosensitivity. Use rose water, curd or honey.

What No Powder Will Do

  • Lighten your skin tone. Removing oil, dead cells and tan makes skin look brighter and more even. Melanin does not change, and anything sold on that promise is either useless or contains something it should not.
  • Shrink pores permanently. Pore size is genetic.
  • Clear cystic acne. Deep painful lumps need a dermatologist — and they scar while untreated.
  • Replace sunscreen. UV is the largest cause of dullness and uneven tone. We do not sell sunscreen and are telling you anyway.
