Above 1 kg the decision stops being about price per gram and becomes about storage and turnover. A 5 kg sack of tulsi that takes fourteen months to use is worse value than 500 g bought three times, because most of it will have lost its aroma before you reach it. This is a practical guide for anyone buying at volume — clinics, resellers, cafes, wellness studios, or a large household.
Who Buys at This Scale
- Ayurvedic practitioners and clinics dispensing to patients
- Resellers and small retailers repacking under their own label
- Cafes, juice bars and health kitchens using moringa, spirulina, beetroot or hibiscus daily
- Salons and spas using multani mitti, ubtan and henna in volume
- Corporate gifting buyers assembling hampers
- Joint families and households where three or four people take the same herb
Work Out Your Real Requirement First
The commonest bulk mistake is ordering on enthusiasm rather than arithmetic.
Daily internal use: people × 3–5 g × 30 = monthly grams.
Four people at 5 g daily = 600 g a month = 7.2 kg a year.
External use runs far higher. A face or hair pack uses 20–50 g, not 3 g. A salon doing ten multani mitti facials a week gets through roughly 1.2 kg a month.
Then buy no more than 6 months of it at once for aromatic herbs, or 12 months for stable ones. That single rule prevents almost every bulk regret.
Which Herbs Survive Bulk Storage
| Buy big — stable | Buy in 500 g – 1 kg only |
|---|---|
| Multani mitti (mineral, keeps for years) | Tulsi (volatile oils, ~6 months) |
| Ashwagandha (root) | Dry ginger |
| Methi (seed) | Lemongrass |
| Harde (fruit) | Curry leaf |
| Jamun seed | Amla (vitamin C oxidises) |
| Shikakai, reetha | Indigo (loses dyeing power fast) |
Indigo deserves a specific warning. It loses its ability to colour hair within about six months. A salon buying 5 kg of indigo will be using dead powder by month eight and blaming its technique. Order indigo in smaller, more frequent lots. See the henna and indigo method.
Storing Bulk Properly
- Decant into a small working jar and keep the bulk sealed. Every opening of the main container lets in air and humidity.
- Airtight, opaque, cool. Not above a stove, not in sunlight.
- Food-grade silica sachets in humid climates — coastal India, the Gulf, monsoon season.
- Always a dry scoop. One damp spoon can spoil an entire sack.
- Label with the date received.
- First in, first out if you hold more than one lot.

What to Ask Any Bulk Supplier
Not just us — these questions separate a grower from a repackager:
- When was this harvested and ground? At volume, age matters more than at 100 g.
- How was it dried? Shade-dried keeps the volatile oils; high-heat machine drying does not. A grower answers instantly.
- Will lots be consistent? Natural produce varies by season. If you are repacking under your own label, ask before your customers notice.
- Single ingredient, no fillers? Bulk is where bulking agents appear.
- Can you supply the same lot again? Matters for anyone reselling.

An Honest Note on Bulk Pricing
Our 1 kg packs work out roughly 9% cheaper per gram than 100 g packs — 29% on multani mitti. That is a real saving but not a dramatic one, and we would rather state it than imply a bigger discount than exists. See the full table in Is the 1 KG Pack Worth It?
For quantities above 1 kg, pricing is quoted per order. Get in touch through Bulk Orders with the herbs, quantities and how often you would reorder.
International Bulk Orders
We ship to 29 countries. At bulk volumes, two things change:
- Customs thresholds. Personal-use quantities clear easily; commercial volumes may need documentation. Check your country's rules before ordering.
- Shipping becomes the dominant cost variable — which is precisely why bulk makes more sense internationally than domestically.
